I think I have learned a lot in this class, about doing videos right and interviews. I learned how to do interviews and how to ask the questions, and how to do wide, medium, and tight shots. Also, how to use final cut pro to edit the videos and b-roll. I think most of the projects were fun to do, overall I liked the class.
I have finished the final project. I did the news package project with Brendan, and Nikan. We decided to interview Dr. lyons for the news package. It was fun interviewing Dr. Lyons, and hearing what he had to say. It was kind of hard figuring out a time when we could all be there to interview him though, but we eventually did it during seminar. I think we got a good interview but we didn't get enough B-roll of certain shots the first time. But, then we went back and got what we needed. Then we started editing and had a few issues, but eventually I think we got the editing correct, and got the project completed.
The top 5 things I learned from the video we watched today were:
#1: Don't use in-camera effects, only add effects later in editing
#2: Always bring extra memory cards or memory devices incase one goes bad
#3: Always do white balance before shooting on the camera
#4: Always bring headphones so that you can hear the audio and make sure its good
#5: Dont change the side the person you are videoing is on
The 2 videos I chose for this are Everybody has a story: Veteran and Everybody has a story: Odd Couple.
In the Everybody has a story: Veteran video, it uses Hey you see so because at the start of the video It talks about him being a veteran (Hey), then it talks about how he fought in the war and how he married his wife (You), then it talks about how he mailed the ring to his wife and how they got married and how he sent the letter to the president (See), and then it talks about how his letter to the president was in a museum about the war he fought in (So).
In the Everybody has a story: Odd Couple video, Hey you see so is used because when the story starts, it talks about how a elephant and a small dog are friends even though they are so different, then it talks about how long they have been friends and how the became friends (You), and then there is the part where the dog got injured and the elephant wanted to see the dog because the elephant missed the dog (See), and the finally it talks about how good of friends they are and how they get along and are friends even though they are so different (So).
Over the past couple weeks, I got video for my interview project. I used Brendan Kelly as my subject and interviewed him about baseball. Overall, the project went well, it just took a while to know how to get the angle and sound right for the interview. But, I liked the project and had fun doing it.
I am currently getting videos for my interview of Brendan. It is working well, but the only problem is sometimes I don't get the location of the person you are interviewing right. Also, sometimes I zoom in too much. But, I am getting good videos for my interview.
I have been getting videos for my six word video story. Most of my shots were around the school and I tried to show traveling in them. The only problem I had was the lighting sometimes where you couldn't see the iPad with the flag on it. But, everything else worked good and overall I thought it was fun and I liked doing it.
The last few days, I researched Ernest Hemmingways "For sale: baby shoes never worn". And I found out that it was made because he bet $10 that he could make a story in 6 words with his friends at a restaurant and he won that bet. I also found out that it was made in 1910. I have been editing the videos we took of the school for the Video Scavanger hunt with Final Cut Pro X. And it was fun trying out the different effects and transitions and seeing how they looked. The video looked good after I edited it, and it had a lot of effects and transitions. Overall, I like Final Cut Pro X and it is good for editing videos.
Today, I worked on getting video for the scavenger hunt, everything worked good and we got all the video for it. We were even able to get a video of a teacher sleeping! The only problem we had was the tripod not being even, but we got that fixed. Overall, I liked this project and it was fun because we got to go around the school and get all of these shots.
